About the job

The Role

As a Customer Service Associate, you are the face and the voice of Constance. You will greet guests, take orders, guide people through the menu, and set the tone for the whole cafe. This is a role for someone who genuinely enjoys people and knows how to read them: warm and confident with regulars, relaxed and easygoing with newcomers.

What You'll Do

• Greet every guest promptly and sincerely, making eye contact and acknowledging people even when you're busy
• Take orders accurately at the counter and process payments
• Help guests choose: describe soups, sandwiches, cheeses and charcuterie, make recommendations, and answer questions about ingredients and allergens
• Learn regulars' names and preferences over time, and make first-time guests feel just as welcome
• Keep the dining room, counter and retail displays clean, stocked and inviting
• Package and hand off takeout, catering pickups and charcuterie board orders
• Work smoothly with the kitchen team to keep orders moving and guests informed
• Handle questions, special requests and the occasional complaint calmly, and bring bigger issues to the manager
• Open and close the cafe following our checklists

What We're Looking For

The welcoming presence

• Naturally outgoing: you start conversations easily and aren't shy about greeting strangers
• Genuine warmth: guests should sense you're glad they came in, not following a script
• A knack for building community, remembering faces and making people feel like part of the place

The judgment

• You read the room. Some guests want a chat; others want a quick, friendly, efficient order. You can tell the difference and adjust
• You are friendly without being overbearing. With new customers especially, you lead with a warm greeting and let them set the pace rather than overwhelming them with enthusiasm or personal questions
• You respect personal space and privacy, and keep conversation appropriate and professional
• You stay composed and gracious under pressure, including during a lunch rush

The basics

• Previous hospitality, restaurant, cafe or retail experience preferred; strong attitude and aptitude will be considered over experience
• Comfortable on your feet and able to lift around 25 lbs
• Reliable, punctual and a good teammate
• Interest in food, cheese and culinary topics is a plus, and we'll teach you the rest
• Able to work Tuesday through Saturday; the cafe is open 10am to 5pm

Schedule and Pay

• Hours: [full-time / part-time; days to be confirmed]
• Pay: $15–17/hr, depending on experience
• Opportunity to grow into expanded front of house, catering and leadership responsibilities
